Lectionary: Proper 12C / Ordinary 17C / Pentecost +10

“WHO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE”

Colossians 2:6-15 (16-19)

by Kwame Toure Kagale

As I lay still in my cell,
wondering why I am still
awake.
My heart is eager oh Lord,
until the morning comes
of which I can hardly wait.

I really want to talk to you,
about some things that has
been on my heart.
I have so much to tell you
dear Jesus, but I don’t know
where to start.

Let me first say thank
you Lord,
for all the life you have given
to me.
And although I am in prison
my eyes have been opened,
so now I can truly see.

This isn’t the plan you had
devised for me,
You had far greater things in store.
But now I’m ready to serve you oh Lord,
and I choose to sin no more.

Sometimes the lessons you teach us
Lord,
I ain’t gonna lie
can be a wee bit hard.
But I know now in order to see the light,
we must turn away from the dark.

For those who may not know you dear Lord,
and to those too blind to see,
may they see all your power and glory,
through the change you’ve made in me.

“For in Christ all the fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.”
-Colossians 2:9-
